City Hall

In 1925, Barth obtained the status of a district town. The building was constructed as the Office of the District Administrator of the Franzburg-Barth district according to the designs of the Berlin architect Professor Walter Brandt. Following the North german redbrick architectural style , it is decorated with beautiful gable ends and a gable-like central part. The residence of the District Administrator was accommodated in the side wing. Since 1946, this attractive building has been the headquarters of the town council.

Bible centre

On October 31st 2001, the Low German Bible Centre was opened in the former St. Jürgen hospital and poorhouse in Sundische Straße (a street). The church, which today is 750 years old, was dedicated to St. George, patron saint against war and disease. People suffering from leprosy and the plague as well as exhausted pilgrims were admitted to the hospital.
